Stretch marks, or Striae Distensae as they are known in the dermatology world, are cause by rapid stretching of the skin, which occurs too quickly for the collagen in the skin to repair itself properly. This is why the most common sufferers of stretch marks are pregnant women or those undergoing body changes such as losing or gaining a large amount of weight.

Stretch marks are very common for both the sexes, male and female. Stretch marks are also very common among over weight people. Stretch marks are not, in any way, harmful but they can be irritated or dry and are unattractive. Many people believe that stretch marks are incurable. Adding to some of the confusion surrounding stretch marks are the overly inflated claims of stretch mark reduction products on the market. Many of good, high quality creams and oils were created to infuse below your outer dermis and penetrate where your stretch marks are forming.

If you are desperately seeking help on how to get rid of stretch marks then your kitchen cupboard may well provide what you are looking for. If not, a visit to your local grocery store, supermarket or health food store will likely solve the problem.

Interesting home made remedies can also be helpful in lessing the appearance of stretch marks. There are many of them available and the most important thing is patience when using the home remedies and cosmetic creams. You will probably need to apply the cream twice a day and it could take a while before you begin seeing results. (Results will also vary from person to person in all cases.)

Another well known treatment are removal creams and lotion. The applications of these products are usually daily and the effects of these are slow or gradual and not instant. There are also stretch marks removal concealers which do not physically remove these stretch marks but temporarily covers them up. These are good for on the spot cover ups.

Another cream that is said to have good results is cocoa butter. It’s fairly inexpensive and can produce good results in removing stretch marks. To get results you will simply apply the cream twice a day to remove stretch marks and in time they will fade. The added moisture to the skin will help it to heal better.

You can get rid of your stretch marks, if you massage vitamin E oil in the stretch mark area especially after having bath. The massage if continued for a long duration can fade the stretch mark up to some extent. You should eat the food that is rich in Vitamins especially in A, E and Vitamin C.

Expensive option to get rid of stretch marks is plastic and cosmetic surgery. This invasive procedure doesn’t come with any guarantees of getting rid of stretch marks and results vary from one individual to another. While surgery may help to get rid of stretch marks for one individual, it may have little impact on another person’s stretch marks.

I don’t think that there’s anything you came absolutely do to prevent them. Of course they have lotion that they say works, but I’ve been using it, and it’s not helping. You could try it though.

    Tummy butter.

    hey !

sorry to say that there isn’t any real way to prevent them. A stretch mark is a tearing of the skin from the inside….The reason people tell you to use coco butter is bc its a moisturizer that’s long lasting bc of its high concentration of collagen and lubricants. The more moist your skin is the more it is easier for it to stretch instead of tear.

Im sure there is something out there that is costly and more efficient but thats basically what it comes down too….staying moisturized.

it feels kind of sticky and gross-ish when it starts to dry.. but well worth it!

    * Steady weight gain

    * Exercise like walking, swimming or yoga

    * Use a plain or mixed oil (NOT bio-oil as it has "nasties" like mineral oil) twice daily within a few minutes after a shower- Use a mix or one of these oils that are good …
    # Evening Primrose Oil – Excellent moisturising qualities.
    # Jojoba – Excellent moisturising & emollient properties, the chemical composition of Jojoba closely resembles sebum the skin’s natural lubricant.
    # Rosehip – Tissue regenerating especially suited to dry skin. Avocado – Rich and nutritious.
    # Hazelnut – A light and easily absorbed oil

    * Avoid long and hot showers

    * Making sure you are getting enough zinc, vitamin c and healthy fats found in avacados, nuts and fish

*Drinking enough water, the minimum amount to drink a day is 30mL per kilo of your body weight

*Having a healthy diet in general

    * Try taking some tissue salts (http://www.martinandpleasance.com/_webap…

    * Avoid soaps, body washs, shampoo & conditioners, face cleansers etc that contain nasty chemicals, as when you use them they will be washing over your belly which will strip the natural oils from your skin…as they do with the rest of your body-
Be careful when you buy products like make-up, body lotion, soaps, facial cleansers etc and read the ingredients…Here is a link to help you out and tells you WHY they are bad ….https://mycertifiedorganic.mionegroup.co…

    * Try taking a tablespoon or more of cold pressed Flaxseed oil each day in a smoothie (it doesn’t have a nasty taste either), this is great for your skin and heart

    * Also a superfood that could help is "Spirulina", it can be bought in tablet or powder form

As others have stated, stretch marks are scars and the intensity in which you get them is primarily heriditary. The only thing doctor’s say works is water, drink drink drink. It keeps your skin hydrated and much more flexible from the inside out. I used a mommy-to-be kit from Burts Bees religiously while I was pregnant. It has an oil you rub on, the smell is fabulous. The kit also comes with a lotion to soothe swollen legs and feet. I used the stretch mark oil as well as drinking water until I thought I would drown, and I didn’t get one stretch mark – pretty good considering stretch marks run in the family, I weighed 110ilb pre-baby and had a 10 ilb baby boy!!
